News Around the Coffee World

  • The Ethiopian harvest is winding down.  These new crop Ethiopian coffees start arriving on our shores around February all the way through June.
  • The Kenya main crop harvest should be in full swing right now.  This is the critical time for growers!  Final sorting and sending of samples to importers and roasters like Terroir will start around mid-February.  The earliest new crop Kenya shipments will arrive in April.
  • The Brazil Cup of Excellence competition has just ended and we should be receiving samples of the winners around next week.  The Cup of Excellence auction will be Jan 10 (http://www.cupofexcellence.org/).

Coffee Tip

With the holidays coming and the cold winter upon us, we’d like to share some of our more festive coffee recipes with you. Stay warm and treat yourself and your guests to these delicious cups:

Keoki Coffee
Ingredients: 1 cup hot coffee, 1 oz Kahlua, 1/2 oz brandy, Whipped cream
Preparation: Mix together in a mug and top with whipped cream. We recommend using Terroir's El Injerto or Las Termopilas.

Spiced Americano
Ingredients: 4oz boiling water, 2oz espresso, 2oz sugar, a pinch of ground cinnamon, a pinch of ground nutmeg
Preparation: Mix the sugar into the boiling water until dissolved. Add cinnamon and nutmeg, and stir. Pour espresso slowly over the spiced water, layering the espresso (best done with a layering spoon). Top with whipped cream. We recommend using Terroir’s North or South Italian Style Espressos.

Staff Picks...

El Mirador, Honduras – Part of this coffee's character has to do with the cultivar of Arabica coffee used in this small, specially selected lot; these pacamara coffee plants produce huge beans which are less dense and much softer than most other varieties. This Cup of Excellence award winner has notes of almond paste, cinnamon and sweet star fruit with a rounding touch of peaches. Very delicate yet crisp acidity with light to medium body.
