What's Happening at Terroir Select Coffees El Camino del Café: This month, George Howell will be an honored guest for a book release gala in Amsterdam. George wrote the forward for the new book El Camino del Café by Olaf Hammelburg (which is currently written in Dutch but will be translated to English next year). The book documents the road coffee takes from small farms in the high mountains of Peru to the port of Lima where it is exported. The event will also include cuppings and a discussion between coffee experts, including key Fair Trade representatives and George Howell. New exciting coffees: Terroir will be releasing great new coffees over the coming months. Watch the website for announcements for them, including two Colombians, more Cup of Excellence award winners, a "masterpiece" Kenya and the return of a great Sumatra Mandheling. We are excited to share these amazing coffees, which will be available soon on our website. Hurricane Relief: We would like to thank everyone who supported the Boston Chefs BBQ for Hurricane Relief and especially Chef Kevin from Coriander Bistro. The event was a great success. Terroir Coffee Tip – How to best store your coffee. If you are keeping your whole bean coffee more than a couple days, store it in an airtight container in your freezer. Scoop out only what you need, grind and brew. In the case of ground coffee, freeze immediately upon receiving. Best is to freeze daily batches. Thus the coffees you will brew on following days will not be exposed. Oxygen causes degradation of the flavor and aroma of coffee. Lower temperatures actually decrease the rate of oxygen degradation and other forms of staling. An airtight container also helps by restricting the air flow, and the amount of oxygen that comes in contact with the roasted beans. Make sure to keep the coffee in the freezer, and only scoop out what you need. Repeatedly letting coffee thaw creates condensation which contributes to the loss of flavor and aroma. For more coffee tips, check out our new Tips section on our website. Staff Picks... Decaf drinkers rejoice! George recently discovered a naturally-processed decaffeinated coffee from Sumatra that actually surpassed other regular Sumatran coffees we have tasted this year. Its full body and mellow acidity make an incredibly smooth, rich cup of decaf coffee. This coffee is completely free of that typical decaf taste. It is available on our online store. Upcoming Events @ Terroir Our next Open House will be announced soon. Watch the website for details. |
