What's Happening at Terroir Select Coffees If you have students in your life heading off to school, don't let them leave home without a daily dose of Terroir Coffee. Sign them up for regular shipments of Terroir and give them regular reminders of home plus a little caffeine to maximize your investment in their education. It's easy to sign them up on our Coffee Club We have been busy here at Terroir over the last few weeks receiving several fresh crops of coffee. As we receive each lot we re-bag them into vacuum sealed bags and freeze them to halt the aging process. The fresh crops include an amazing new decaf Sumatra with all the wonderful body and flavor of a Sumatran coffee, without any of that decaf taste. From Kenya, we received two fantastic new coffees from Tegu and Karagoto. We also recently received four new Cup of Excellence coffees from Mira Valle and El Mirador in Honduras; and from the Jose Alberto Vasquez Cooperative, and Las Termopilas in Nicaragua. Some of these incredible coffees will be website exclusives, so keep your eyes on Terroir Coffee for updates. Terroir Coffee Tip You may have noticed that coffee left on a hot plate tends to lose its flavor and acquires an almost burnt taste after the first few minutes. We recommend taking your pot off the hot plate as soon as it is finished brewing. Terroir coffee will retain its flavor, and in most cases, tastes even better, as it cools. Heating of any kind, by hotplate, or microwave, results in a loss of flavor, so we recommend that instead of re-heating the coffee, try heating up your mug or brew more fresh coffee. Staff Picks… This week we recommend our latest crop of La Flor del Café from Guatemala. Its mellow citric notes and rich velvety chocolate taste make it ideal for your morning cup of coffee. Also, if you haven't tried our decafs, they are the best we've ever tasted. For something a little darker than our Full Flavor Roast, try our Decaf Espresso. We used a North Italian Style roast for this Decaf Espresso, so that it’s perfect for espresso, but also brews a wonderful cup of dark drip coffee. Check it out on our online storeCoffee Myth #3 Myth: If I grind my coffee finer, I can use less of it. Reality: Each scoop of coffee, regardless of the grind, imparts a certain amount of flavor. As well, when coffee is ground too fine, bitter flavors emerge from the coffee. Using less coffee only adds to this problem, but also gives the coffee a weaker taste. With Terroir coffee, we recommend a coarser grind and about 1 scant scoop of coffee per cup. (For most brewers, 1 cup equals about 5 oz’s of brewed coffee). Adjust the proportions to your preferred taste. If you would like a sample of our recommended grind with your next order, just give us a call at 866-444-5282. Upcoming Events @ Terroir Watch for the date for our next open house in our September News and Notes. Thanks to all who visited us on July 29th -- George Howell demonstrated a cupping and gave our guests tour, coffee tasting, and chance to join in on the cupping action. Remember, life is short so always drink GREAT coffee. |
